We are esta­blis­hing a world-class re­search lab for secure wire­less sensor & actuator commu­ni­ca­tion networks with focus on factory commu­ni­ca­tions and enab­ling cyber-physical systems appli­ca­tions. In close coope­ra­tion with univer­si­ties and leading industry part­ners, the re­search activi­ties will cover e.g. depen­dable and flexible edge compu­ting gate­ways bridging between wire­less and wired commu­ni­ca­tion under the strin­gent real-time cons­traints of Indus­trial IoT. The re­search results shall support stan­dar­di­za­tion and deve­lop­ment of indus­trial wire­less sensor and actuator networks, and shall open new perspec­tive on appli­ca­tions in control engi­nee­ring.

Your future responsibilities

  • Assess­ment and impro­ve­ment of leading wire­less tech­no­lo­gies
  • Re­search in multi­di­sci­pli­nary team­work within RF, sensor design, cyber physical systems and soft­ware
  • Theo­re­tical analysis, simu­la­tion and expe­ri­mental wire­less network deve­lop­ment in the field of real time factory commu­ni­ca­tion
  • Inter­faces between phyiscal sensors and RF commu­ni­ca­tions
  • Deve­lop­ment of test­beds to realize various wire­less sensor networks inclu­ding data analysis

Your profile

  • Master/​PhD in Electrical and/​or Commu­ni­ca­tion Engi­nee­ring or in Computer Science
  • Excel­lent MATLAB, Python, C/​C++ programming skills are required
  • Hands-on expe­ri­ence in coding, testing, itera­tive impro­ve­ment, and docu­men­ta­tion of sensor networks is required
  • Expe­ri­ence on wire­less LAN MAC layer protocol design and/​or analysis is preferred
  • Expe­ri­ence in commu­ni­ca­tion system simu­la­tion or network simu­la­tion, such as ns-3, OPNET, or omnet++, is preferred
  • Fami­li­a­rity with at least two of the follo­wing topics is required: milli­meter wave tech­no­lo­gies, sensor network tech­no­lo­gies, distri­buted networ­king tech­no­lo­gies, wire­less LAN systems, or wire­less PAN systems
  • Ability to work both inde­pen­dently and in a team is a must

  • This posi­tion is endowed with a gross annual salary of € 43,820 based on the collec­tive agree­ment for re­search („Forschungs-Kollek­tiv­ver­trag“) and depen­ding on your expe­ri­ence and skills.
